10 Ways To Advertise Your Online Business / Website

This post will be about ways to promote / advertise your business website. Some of the ways listed below are ones that I used to advertise my online business. To read about my business venture click here. Listed below are mostly free ways to advertise.

  1. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). This is really important, because if your site is not found by search engines then how do you expect other people to find your site? This is a really large topic, and one that I have a keen interest in, so I will do another post dedicated to SEO. 
  2. Writing articles. If you write an article and submit it to an article site it will generate free traffic, and it is also good for increasing backlinks to your site. For my business site I had about 3 or 4 articles submitted to various sites, and even though I didn't have many articles, I got a lot of traffic from those sources. (Free)
  3. Business directories. You should submit your site to business directories such as dmoz, yellow pages et cetera. This will generate backlinks to your site. (Free)
  4. Social networking sites. I used Facebook and Twitter, on Facebook I made a page for my business, and invited my friends to joined, also make sure you have a button on your business website so people can also find your Facebook page and like it. Facebook likes will help with search engine page ranking. (Free)
  5. Pay-Per-Click (PPC). I used Googles PPC advertising, I set it all up, and then I decided against it, but then a few weeks later, I received a letter from Google and there was a £30 gift card for PPC advertising. So I went back to set it up, and my website would appear at the top of Google.
  6. Blogging. Blogging can help drive traffic to your site, this isn't something I did with my business website. But I started this blog to help promote my portfolio website. Guest blogging can be a better way to drive traffic, if you write for a high ranked blog that gets more traffic.
    This usually works by having a link to your site. (Free)
  7. Classifieds. This is an easy free way of generating traffic, I submitted ads on websites like gumtree.  (Free)
  8. Youtube. Because I had a photo retouching and restoration business, I made Youtube videos showing photos being retouched, and some photos just showed the before and after shots. This for me wasn't that great in generating traffic; I think for this to work you have to publish videos fairly frequently. (Free)
  9. Word of mouth. I don't rate this way as much as the others above, but it can help. I happened to be at a wedding where I spoke to a few people about my photo retouching business. And also my mum used to tell everyone she bumped into on the street; she even told our personal adviser at the bank! (Free)
  10. Print advertising. If you have a business or website, that you can print of flyers for that you know you can place somewhere; such as local businesses, then I would suggest print advertising. Otherwise I would stick to online ways of advertising, as print advertising is expensive, and you don't want to be lumbered with loads of flyers that you don't know what to do with.
So to round up I would advise to stick to advertising your business / website / services online. And there are so many things that you can do for free. There will be a post looking more in-depth into SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) in the near future.

  2. Advertising online is definitely the way to go nowadays. Since a lot of people are online, advertising one’s business on the Internet widens the range of potential customers. SEOs are definitely helpful in this because most people, who need anything, find them through search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo, so being listed as a search result for a specific topic is going to up the chances of being seen by a wider array of people around the world.

  3. I totally agree with Jamie! SEOs specialize in marketing businesses online, so it definitely deserves the top spot on this list. SEOs put businesses in the front pages of search engine results, making them easier for customers to find them. Since so many people are online nowadays, it’s only logical to have a website for one’s company or work, so that more potential customers can be reached, which will ensure more success.

  4. I think Jamie hit the nail right on the head with that one. SEO is a growing business in itself because it’s proving very successful in terms of internet marketing. I actually would not be surprised to see SEO websites employing the services of other SEO websites, haha! But isn’t that a mark of just how successful the business is now? If something you’re doing is working so well for others, why not use it for yourself?

  6. Each nature of business that has a website will have at least one specific online advertising technique that works best for it. For example, if the nature of the business is more about the creation or application of something, such as photography or cosmetics, it will probably benefit best from YouTube videos. But for sure, all business websites can benefit from even just a little bit of SEO magic. It always helps to bring traffic to one’s website if it can be quickly seen on search engines.

  7. Submitting your website to online business directories is a smart idea. Most business directories come up as search results on Google, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo, so it’s a good opportunity for your website to be seen. SEO would still be a more direct approach, however, if search engine results are what you’re after.

  8. I agree with your first point. SEO is a big factor when it comes to establishing an online presence. Also, social networking site are very helpful. A lot of people have accounts in different social media platform nowadays, and businesses can utilize the numbers game to spread the brand and be known.
